  • William Grant Still is the composer most associated with the Harlem Renaissance. His First Symphony, dubbed the Afro-American, a thrilling, jazz and blues-infused wonder of American composition. 
  • Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4 weaves together the stylings of counterpoint master Johann Sebastian Bach and Brazilian folk music.
  • Arturo Márquez’s racing Danzón No. 2, an homage to the music and dance style that began in Cuba and later took root in the Veracruz region on Mexico.
