Chicago Philharmonic presents the tenth year of its signature community engagement program, Side by Side with the Chicago Philharmonic, presented with the Chicago Park District’s “Night Out in the Parks” initiative.

What is Side by Side?

Side by Side with the Chicago Philharmonic brings free symphonic concerts to Chicago parks in local communities in Chicago’s South and West sides. Students and community members of all ages and levels are encouraged to bring their instruments and rehearse and perform free concerts with Chicago Philharmonic musicians.

This season’s program explores crowd favorites including music from Star Wars, classic orchestral repertoire, and more!

Selections include:

  • Dance of the Golden Snake Er Nie
  • Star Wars: The Rebellion John Williams
  • Afro-American Symphony, Movement 1 William Grant Still
  • Symphony No. 4, Movement 3 Johannes Brahms
  • Hoedown Aaron Copland
  • Selections from Chicago John Kander arr. Ted Ricketts
  • Stars and Stripes Forever John Philip Sousa
  • 1812 Overture Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky 

The schedule for this event includes a free and open rehearsal from 3:00-5:00pm for anyone who wants to listen, culminating in a performance at 6:00pm.
