Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 6 (Pathétique) Anna ClyneMasquerade Ferdinand David Concertino for Trombone and Orchestra
Intense passion, playful joy and violent despair are evoked in our sensational 30th season opening concert. Tchaikovsky’s final symphony, the Pathétique, expresses the fiercely emotional struggle for survival and the melancholy lament of our ultimate destiny. In contrast, Anna Clyne’s Masquerade evokes a carnival atmosphere, where the streets and citizens come to life in celebration. Rounding out the program is Ferdinand David’s lyrical and triumphant Trombone Concertino, featuring trombonist and beloved member of the Chicago Philharmonic family Jeremy Moeller.
