Indo-American Heritage Museum presents Gala 2017

September 16, 2017, 6:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Stanley Field Hall The Field Museum, 1400 S Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, Illinois 60605

Acclaimed Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Ayaan Ali Khan, Amaan Ali Khan and the Chicago Philharmonic.

The performance of the concerto ‘SAMAAGAM’ by Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Ayaan and Amaan with the Chicago Philharmonic will be the highlight of the 2017 Indo-American Heritage Museum fundraising gala at Stanley Field Hall of The Field Museum in Chicago at 6 pm on Saturday, September 16, 2017.
“Samaagam” in Sanskrit means confluence or flowing together.

The concerto explores and blends the DNA of eastern and western musical traditions and serves as a metaphor for the Indian American diaspora in the USA. This event coincides with the Exhibition Beyond Bollywood, Indian Americans Shape the Nation augmented by an exhibition about local Indian Americans produced by the Indo-American Heritage Museum.

While enjoying cocktails and appetizers, gala guests may explore the exhibition which is on view in the Field Museum’s Marae Gallery. Expert docents will be present to explain diversity and nuances of the heritage of Indian Americans and to discuss their contributions to the fabric of our nation. Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation was created by the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. The exhibition is co-presented in Chicago by The Field Museum and the Indo-American Heritage Museum. This exhibition is generously supported by The Chicago Community Trust

Tickets $250.
