“Chicago Philharmonic played to a packed, sold-out crowd of 4,000, and the atmosphere was unreal. There’s truly no better feeling than sharing this kind of program with an audience that’s so present and appreciative.”
-Dan Won, Chicago Philharmonic clarinetist

On December 20, 2025 the Chicago Philharmonic and The Auditorium presented The Holiday in Concert to a sold-out crowd. Guests arrived dressed for the season, some leaning into the film, others simply ready for a night out. From the start, the night felt communal. Familiar movie. Live music. A full house.
The audience cheered, cried, and laughed while the Nancy Meyers romcom played on a giant screen – all as Maestro Thiago Tiberio led the Chicago Philharmonic in Hans Zimmer’s sometimes playful, sometimes wistful score. Original dialogue and sound effects were mixed with live orchestra music, creating an immersive film experience unlike any other, and a unique chance to celebrate the movie that is a holiday favorite for many.
The Chicago Philharmonic is on a mission to reimagine the symphonic concert experience, and The Holiday in Concert is no exception. An estimated 41% of attendees were new to live symphonic concerts. Audience members came dressed in everything from tuxedos to jeans and Christmas sweaters, and were encouraged to participate fully in the experience however was comfortable for them.

“Our goal is to always meet people where they’re at,” said Executive Director Terell Johnson. “That means performing in venues like public parks or Lollapalooza Festival, premiering major new pieces by Chicago composers, and providing one-of-a-kind experiences like our film concerts. It’s a privilege and a joy to see people enjoy live music, and events like The Holiday allow us to reach new people in a new way.”
The evening marked the 16th event in the popular Auditorium Philms series, which launched in 2024 as an unprecedented partnership between Chicago’s most dynamic orchestra and the city’s beloved historic venue. An additional three events are scheduled for Spring 2026, with more slated for announcement in Fall 2026 and beyond. The film concerts feature a wide range of ensemble sizes and styles depending on the music score, including an all-electric chamber orchestra for the 2024 U.S. Premiere of Blade Runner Live, an 18-piece jazz band for the Fall 2025 Whiplash in Concert, or a full 80-person orchestra for the upcoming March 28, 2026 Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark in Concert in Concert.

We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening merry and bright! Thank you to our musicians, our dear friends and partners at The Auditorium, Maestro Thiago Tiberio, and every person who came to this extraordinary evening.
